Cancer Made Me a Shallower Person: A Memoir in Comics |
by Miriam Engelberg
This book has been described on Amazon as "wonderful", "incredibly funny" and "excellent, hilarious, irreverent, punch-packing, truthful, gripping...". And as a reviewer who is a doctor says "Laughing at something gives you a sense of power, and power over cancer is a rare commodity for most cancer patients and their loved ones."
I found much wry humour in this book and many cartoons that were outright funny in a deliciously black way. Miriam had a good take on the absurdity of the cancer trajectory and what it can be like to be stuck inside the bubble that is the cancer world.
The cartoons are line drawings and I am considering buying some colouring in pencils so that, if the inclination should ever take me, I can colour in the cartoons that have particular resonance for me.
